We believe that racial justice and support for marginalized communities cannot be separated from the practice of science. We must actively work to recognize the obstacles that scientists (and potential scientists) from marginalized communities face, and dismantle structures of power that prevent them from succeeding. We must also consider the effects of our research and research choices on marginalized communities. More info on this pledge and the poster here.
We join the UW-Madison community-wide efforts to support inclusive excellence for all students, scientists, and knowledge seekers. The field of orthopedics lags behind other biomedical fields in the recruitment of women and underrepresented minorities. We are committed to changing this narrative. Our lab is a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and productive environment that fosters open dialogue and the exchange of scientific ideas, promotes equal opportunities and treatment, and is free from harassment and discrimination.
Graduate students (Ph.D. or M.S.) interested in joining the lab can apply through the following programs:
- Cellular and Molecular Biology
- Cellular and Molecular Pathology
- Comparative Biomedical Sciences
- Endocrine and Reproductive Physiology
It may be possible to join through other programs – contact Dr. Weaver for details.
Undergraduate Students are always welcome! You will work in a collaborative team with graduate students, technicians, and the PI to learn basic molecular biology techniques and join ongoing projects in the lab. There may also be opportunities to develop your own projects with experience.
